Privacy

Full disclosure

Worldwide privacy awareness is a swiftly-growing concept—a movement that we at Digital Brain applaud! We believe that privacy is an important right for everybody, especially for children. Our goal is to help children to be safe on the internet without invading their privacy.

Privacy Levels

We offer two types of privacy levels. Regardless of the level you choose, the privacy of your students is guaranteed!

Privacy Level

Organization

At this privacy level, the school will gain access to global insights about internet usage throughout the school. Faculty will be able to see which categories are popular during school hours without any link to a specific user.

Privacy Level

User

At this privacy level, the school will receive global insights regarding a specific user’s internet use during school hours. The IT admin and/or teacher is only able to see what categories are visited, and is not able to see what domains or content is visited.

Our mission is to create a safe environment for students; but unlike our competitors, we are not invasive of their privacy. With our privacy-friendly approach, we are able to provide a safe internet environment for students of all ages while offering the school enough information to guide students on the internet when needed.

What happens under the hood?

What do we store in our database and why?

Under the hood

Base Domain

Our tool does not check the entire domain. For example, when a student visits https://www.bing.com/search?q=screentrust, we strip everything on the device to bing.com and categorise this as a Search Engine. This ensure the privacy of the students, since we are not able to see what exactly is being searched for.

Device Check-in

When a device is connected to ScreenTrust, it automatically reports its status. Because we want to guide students to secure their devices, we check various protective factors; for instance, we check if Face ID is configured.

App ID

With the App ID, we create statistics about the most used applications. The App ID is stored anonymously in our database, so we are not able to determine which app is used by whom.

User ID

The User ID is used to tie the categories to a specific user. Unlike our competitors, ScreenTrust does not invasively log domain names or other user content. The User ID is only stored in our database when the Privacy Level: User is selected.

Timestamp

We need the timestamp to determine what time of day an activity took place to be able to create statistics about the activities.

Domain Category and Allowed/Blocked result

With the Domain Category and Allowed/Blocked Result, we are able to provide useful statistics for schools and students alike.

First Name / Last Name

We only store the first name and last name when Privacy Level: User is selected in order to give the school useful statistics per student.

Unique Identifier

With the Unique Identifier, we can match users coming from another source such as an MDM or Apple School Manager to a user in ScreenTrust. This can for example be a unique number or email address.

Class/Group

With the classes/groups from a source system, the school can assign specific policies to a group of students. When Privacy Level: Organization is selected, the school can only see the name of the class/group and the number of students in it, but not the names or other personal information of the students.

Powerful

Without compromising privacy!

ScreenTrust provides the school with just enough insights without compromising the privacy of students, allowing faculty to engage in conversation with the student about behavior if needed.
